A note from the founders on what we built, why we built it, and what comes next.

We started Lanyard because of a question that wouldn't leave us alone.

If financial tracking tools were enough, why is everyone still stressed about money?

Smart, hard-working people earn good incomes and still feel like their money is happening to them rather than for them. Not because they aren't paying attention. They have banking apps, spreadsheets, and category trackers. They can tell you to the dollar what they spent on coffee last month.

What they can't tell you is whether they're on track. Or what to do next.

That gap, the space between knowing where your money went and knowing what it means, is where we built Lanyard.

A Coach, Not Another Dashboard

What's missing isn't more data. It's a coach. Someone who sees the full picture, tells you what it means in the context of your life, and gives you a game plan you can act on this month. No products to sell. No commissions. Just someone whose only job is to help you do better with the income you've already earned.

That's the role Lanyard is built to play. The Playbook, your monthly report, is the closest thing we could build to having a thoughtful, numerate friend sit down with you once a month and walk you through where you stand. The Momentum Score answers the question every customer asks first: am I actually on track? Coach's Orders give you a small number of concrete moves for the month, because three good actions you'll actually take beats fifty you won't.

What It Took to Get Here

We wrote the first lines of code in early 2026. Twelve weeks later, we had a product in real people's hands.

Along the way we built a real platform (not a webview wrapper), with bank-level data handling. We built a scoring system we believe in, grounded in cash flow, spend intentionality, and saving progress. And we wrote every word of it in a voice that sounds like a teammate, not a robot. We will never shame you for a purchase. That isn't what coaches do.

To the Teammates Who Got Us Here

Some of you said yes to a beta in May, knowing it would be rough around the edges. You tested early builds, found bugs, and told us, sometimes gently and sometimes not, when something didn't feel right.

Lanyard exists in its current form because of you. Every note is in the product now, even when you can't see exactly where.

And to the first paying customers who have come on board since launch: thank you for trusting us with something that matters this much. We're going to keep earning it.

This Is the Starting Point

Launch day, for us, is barely a milestone. It's the moment where work that's been mostly invisible finally meets the people it was built for.

There is a lot we're excited to share in the months ahead. New features we've been quietly building. Writing that will help you think more clearly about your money. Ways for Lanyard to grow with you as your goals get bigger.
